The Douro Wine Region

The Douro Demarcated Region is the oldest in the world, Marquês de Pombal laid the foundation for what the Region would be today, however more than 250 years have passed and many liters of good wine.

In this article we want to draw attention to one of the Portuguese Wine Regions, perhaps with more and greater international projection.

A history of almost two millennia on the schist slopes of the Douro valley, the charming River (Douro River) that circulates and crosses this noble Region, a unique viticultural landscape, resulting in exceptional wines.

In due course we will approach in more and greater detail the special terroir that characterizes the Douro and Porto Region.

Douro River

A very important characteristic of the Douro Demarcated Region is based on its soils of schist origin, associated with the climate, orography, grape varieties and cultural practices, giving a unique personality to the wines produced here.

Port wine

In this region, one of the icons with the greatest and most reputation is undoubtedly Port Wine. This is a liqueur wine, produced under peculiar conditions derived from natural and human factors.

The manufacturing process, based on the very Portuguese tradition, includes stopping the fermentation of the must by adding wine spirit to the blending of wines and aging.

Other types of wine

It should already be clarified that in this region you don't just live by making Port Wine, in fact there is much more wine than the ex-libris that many Kings, Governors and public figures over the centuries have enjoyed and continue to taste for its uniqueness.

Red wine

The Red Wines produced in this region with unmatched complexity and richness, you can find Red Wines to drink at a young age, and you can also benefit from Red Wines to reserve and store. The guard wines produced in the Douro are labeled Reserva or Grande Reserva on the label, and you can order here. They should be served between 16º and 18ºC.

White wine
