The origin of the "São Leonardo" brand began with Quintas daCosta and Poisa, where two families lived there, one on each farm, whose caretakers were brothers.
As there were no long-distance media at the time, the roads were very rudimentary. Thus, it was precisely in the middle of the way that they met, in the magnificent viewpoint of São Leonardo da Galafura, that inspired great poets, such as Miguel Torga, and continues today to enchant its visitors who visit the amazing viewpoint of São Leonardo da Galafura, where the poet was very inspired by his literary work.
That is why the Port Wines "São Leonardo" represent, in a certain way, a meeting of brothers.
This Port Wine S. Leonardo Very Old 100, its “Bottled history” so we like to name this wine, result of a blend from 1895 and 1927. This wine crossed 3 centuries and represents a tribute to the unlimited lifespan of Port by presenting a perfect balance and an excepcional complexity.
This 100 year old Port Wine, S. Leonardo is something very sensational, an amazing experience. A previous point for a tasting note that we want to share, is that the mother wine for this blend comes from 1895 and the average age is just over 100 years old. When lying in the glass, it looks like we are putting molasses in the glass, but they are not so thick, opaque. In fact, opaque like a new Vintage Port recently bottled, some viscosity with a beautiful and fantastic tear, which takes more than 10 seconds to disappear. We saw a real Porto color, staining the glass in a few shades of mahogany or burnt umber, then on the nose it reveals aged molasses, honey, wheat, very old leather, perhaps varnish, pipe tobacco, cigar box, cut oats in steel and crystallized citrus fruits, the same palates follow in the mouth, crossed with heated honey, then comes the sensation at the end of the mouth, which is the brain processing of what you are tasting, with the feeling that we are facing something that is not all drunk the days, not in a lifetime, but after repeating the test, in small sips, the brain will certainly continue to process smells, tastes and feelings. It is undoubtedly an innovative experience that every human being must have.
