His nobility results in the passionate dedication of his people, ranging from the stone mill to computers. Without this deep relationship there is no wine. And it is so strong that the nobleman as a modest peasant in the same language and in the same wisdom.

This region has its charms and peculiarities, because the vineyards are hidden by the pines, by the broom, by the brushwoods, behind a wall.

When walking through the lands of Dão, we see very little or nothing.

We have to start discovering, and only then do we find the right people, treading the earth and breathing the magic of a cellar.

Then, no two farms are the same and each is a defined universe. In fact, only in secret is a masterpiece produced: Dão Wine.

The Dão Demarcated region is larger than geography indicates, it has very determined people, an irresistible landscape, tradition and modernity, ancient cultures, superb cuisine, where we clearly identify the Portuguese identity, an open heart the size of the World and a wine with a unique personality in the world.

The region

We believe that nature has given the Dão Demarcated Region a set of happy geographical coincidences.

Between deeply mountainous areas, valleys coexist with hills and smooth and rounded slopes.

The Dão Region, with a geographical area of about 376,000 hectares, includes the municipalities of Arganil, Oliveira do Hospital and Tábua of the District of Coimbra; Aguiar da Beira, Fornos de Algodres, Gouveia and Seia from the District of Guarda; Carregal do Sal, Mangualde, Mortágua, Nelas, Penalva do Castelo, Santa Comba Dão, Sátão, Tondela and Viseu from the District of Viseu.

The perfect union

The vineyards that give rise to Dão wines are implanted in granite soils that are generally of low fertility. The various schist outcrops appear mainly to the south and west of the Region, in an area considered marginal in terms of wine.

Dão wines are a perfect example of the union between tradition and modernity that Portugal offers to the world.
